As part of the Department of Energy's (DOE) ongoing efforts to decrease energy consumption in the United States, the SEER, EER, and HSPF ratings were updated to SEER2, EER2, and HSPF2 ratings on January 1, 2023. These new ratings reflect equipment efficiency based on updated testing and calculation procedures that took effect in 2023. Improvements in air conditioning equipment more accurately represent real-world conditions nationwide, especially in the Southwest.
In line with the DOE's SEER2 implementation, SRP adjusted the minimum qualification for the Cool Cash rebate from 16.0 SEER to 15.0 SEER2. DOE conversion charts indicated that a SEER2 level of 15.2 corresponds to 16.0 SEER in ducted systems. However, to ease the transition for contractors, manufacturers, and all SRP customers, SRP set the new minimum requirement at 15.0 SEER2.
Beginning November 11, 2024, for all AC and heat pump replacements installed after this date, SRP will raise the minimum SEER2 requirement for the Cool Cash rebate to 15.2.
